N is for Never Fear, Buster is Here!

Buster and I are home! Once again, I had a fabulous experience at Southeastern Guide Dogs. Buster is a 2 year old, solid black Goldador. His father is a Golden Retriever, and his mother is a black Labrador Retriever. He is 80 pounds and a truly awesome guide dog. Although I feel closest to my trainers (Lynn and Carl), I know it takes a village to raise a guide dog. I am eternally grateful to the staff, volunteers and supporters of SEGDI for Buster. My favorite dreams are those in which I can fly. When I was matched with Buster, it felt like a dream come true. Of all the dogs and all the people and all the wings in the world, Buster arrived with a pair of magical wings that are a perfect fit for us!

Dolly is doing well at Arbor Acres Retirement Community with my mother. I am eternally grateful to my mother as well for providing such a wonderful home for Dolly. Now I hear Christmas is just 12 days from today so I'm off to load my sleigh...

M is for Meeting my new Guide Dog

My shops are "on vacation", and I am packing my bags. In a few days, I will meet my new guide dog at Southeastern Guide Dogs in Palmetto, Florida. They will not give me even a hint about my new dog, but I will try to post and include a picture when I do meet him/her.

Dolly is ready to don her new collar and live a life of luxury with my mother. I wonder how much weight she will gain from enjoying all those bonbons!?!

Thanks to all of you for your support. Special thanks to Anne at myhelpinghands.artfire.com for the wonderful vacation banner. See you in December...peace yall!

L is for Laundry Room Wall

As some of you know, my trip to Southeastern Guide Dogs has bee delayed. Dolly's new retirement date is 11/8 which is the day I will "go back to school". I will return 12/3 with my new guide dog.

So...how about more quotes to hold you. Today I will feature my laundry room wall.

"Some days I wonder how my kids will turn out, but most of the time I'm just trying to figure out how to survive them right now."

"Do not mistake endurance for hospitality."

"Women are made to be loved, not understood."

"Don't make me get the flying monkeys."

"Sometimes being around small children is like being nibbled to death by ducks."

"I try to take one day at a time...but sometimes, several days attack me at once."

Happy Trails to you!

K is for Knew This Day Was Coming...

...but it's still hard to imagine! After guiding me for more than 6 years, Dolly is ready to retire. She is going to live with my mother, fortunately, and they adore each other. Mother lives close by so we'll get to see her often. I will be returning to Southeastern Guide Dogs in FL to train with her successor dog. Because this will be my second dog, I only have to stay for 20 days. I am scheduled to be down there from 9/25 to 10/15. This will be a huge transition for my family, and I am thankful for their love, support and courage.

Anytime you need a break, visit guidedogs.org and click on PuppyCam! It's guaranteed to put a smile on your face. If you are ready for that break now, just click on the title.

J is for Just Visit This Shop!

You'll be glad you did!

This Weeks Featured Artisan is Creations with Heart

I truly enjoy creating jewelry and it\'s a bonus and a pleasure to make it available to you!

I love to create classic and western jewelry that will always fit your style! Gemstones, crystals, pewter and leather are just a few materials I enjoy working with. I\'m a \"dog mom\" so including animals in some of my creations is a must -- I love them so much! A percentage of all animal related purchases is donated to help the animals. It\'s something I like to do to help our furry friends that need and depend on us.

You\'ll see jewelry styles ranging from classic, animal themed, southwest, western and inspirational. My wish is to have my guests smile when they put my jewelry on. When you smile, you feel good!

I hope you enjoy the jewelry I\'ve created and may it bring you joy and happiness

Finding Charm

I started making jewelry because I had outfits I just couldn't find that perfect piece to go with. So I thought I'd buy some beads and give it a try. I was hooked, it's almost an addiction! It's important to me that I create charming pieces that don't break the bank. I started getting compliments and requests and decided I should help others in their journey of finding charm.

G is for Go Spread the Word!

In anticipation of spending 18 days in Florida at Southeastern Guide Dogs to train with Dolly's successor, I have marked a lot of jewelry down to half price in my Artfire shop! My hope is to get my shop cleaned up before putting it into "vacation mode". Dolly's retirement process has begun, and I expect to train with my new guide dog within the next few months. This has been a very difficult decision for me, but it's the right thing to do for Dolly as well as my safety. Fortunately Dolly is in relatively good health, and she will go to live with my mother when I go to FL. My mother lives close to us, and she and Dolly adore each other. Please help me spread the word about my Artfire sale. Just click on this post title, and you will find yourself in my shop. I think you'll be able to tell which items have been marked down to half price! Many thanks from Dolly and me! I'll keep you up to date on her retirement process...

B is for Banks meets Banks

Have you ever wondered how guide dogs get their names? The person that sponsors a guide dog has the privilege of naming him or her. My mother sponsored the dog you see here and named him Banks in honor of my son, Banks. Yesterday we had the wonderful opportunity to meet Banks. His puppy raisers are traveling from Florida to Ohio and were kind enough to stop here in North Carolina so we could all get together. As you can see, it was a happy time for all!

Z is for Zip

So my husband and boys went to Carolina Ziplines this weekend with the Boy Scouts, and this is what they brought home! The puppy, Zip, was apparently living off of Boy Scout snacks and leftovers, drinking out of a creek and sleeping up against the boys' tents. We gave him a bath, pulled over 20 ticks off of him and took him to the Vet on Monday. He's 13 weeks old and in fairly good shape. Once again I have proven to be just this side of insane! Dolly loves him, Emmy follows him around growling at him and Sparky runs from him!?! Bear, our cat, stays on high ground, and I don't think the salamander has even noticed him! Here's to Z is for Zip, and we live in a Zoo...

Q is for Quotes

No surprise here! I could not let Q get away without offering a few more most loved quotes.

"As much as I try to be an easygoing,
stretch your wings and fly type...
I just can't stop trying to burst people into flames with my mind."
Erin Smith

"Happy trails to you,
until we meet again.
Some trails are happy ones,
others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
here's a happy one for you."
Dale Evans

"Women are angels.
And when someone breaks our wings,
we simply continue to fly...
on a broomstick.
We are flexible like that."
I don't know

So who would have guessed this much of the alphabet would have come and gone already? Not me. When I started this blog, I had no idea how I would get through the alphabet, ever. Now it looks like we'll see how many times I can get through it in a year!?!

I is for Interesting Quotes

Yes, I find all of these quotes interesting at the very least. You may also find them to be ingenious, iffy, intimate, intriguing and/or informative.

"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened"
Anatole France

"Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier."
Mother Teresa

"Blessed are those who have earned the love of an old dog."
Author Unknown

"So, how's that workin' for ya?"
my sister

"People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you.
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight.
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, people may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.
Give the world the best you have anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway."
Mother Teresa

E is for Evelyn's Baskets

Evelyn's Basket's of Love and Life are ecumenical, empowering, effective, enabling, equalizing and an enduring gift. My friends, Joe and Jane, have a mission! They provide families in Guatemala a basket full of everything they need to nurture infants born with cleft lip/palate. Not only are these babies cared for, but Joe and Jane talk with the families about the stigma associated with cleft lip/palate and provide the money needed for corrective surgery. The baskets are named in honor of Joe and Janes's granddaughter, Evelyn, who was born with a cleft lip/palate. Pink is the color associated with cleft lip/palate and, as love and life would have it, Evelyn's favorite color. $30 from the purchase of the Sterling Lips and Pink Glass Necklace will go to Evelyn's Basket's of Love and Life. To learn more about this mission, go to wwww.evelynsbaskets.org.

D is for Dolly

My guide dog, Dolly, is delightful, dexterous, durable, devoted, darling, dynamic, demure, dear and knows how to play Duck, Duck, Goose. She is an Australian Shepherd, and her coat description is Blue Merle which is the combination of black, white, gray and brown. I got Dolly 5 1/2 years ago at Southeastern Guide Dogs (guidedogs.org) in Palmetto, FL. What a truly awesome experience that was! I spent the month, well almost the entire month, of August 2004 in training with her. The hurricanes were so numerous and nasty, we were sent home early. Anyway, Dolly knew over 40 commands so I had a lot to learn! In addition we celebrated her 2 yo birthday together down there. How about that for a brilliant dog! I could go on and on and on about Dolly..........just ask me a question, any question. She is one of the absolute best things in my life!

B is for Brainstorm

Inspired by Kate (The Clock Talked Loud), the following are some of the beautiful, bold, bodacious, belligerent, bust-a-gut or bewidering, but all beloved by me quotes I've had the good fortune to run across.

"A mutt is couture--the only one like it in the world, and made especially for you."
Isaac Mizrahi

"May those who love us, love us
And those that don't love us,
May God turn their hearts;
And if He doesn't turn their hearts
May He turn their ankles
So we'll know them by their limping"
an Old Gaelic Blessing

"I am Bord!!!!!!!!!!!!"
a note passed by my son at 5 yo while sitting in church

"Blessed are Women whose hearts and souls are joined together by laughter and tears for they shall be known as SISTERS"
a plaque in a catalog

"May the light always find you on a dreary day.
When you need to be home may you find a way.
May you always have courage to take a chance.
And never find frogs in your underpants."
an anonymous Scandinavian

"While I admire the glass is half full type...I'm comfortable with the fact my glass will always have a slow and steady leak."
Erin Smith

"Every boy should have two things: a dog, and a mother willing to let him have one."
Anonymous

That's all for now. Follow me to C what's next.

A is for Anne

Anne is amazing, attentive, amiable and able to jump tall buildings in a single bound! Maybe the last one is slightly exaggerated, but Anne is awesome. She makes beautiful scarves for her madeforme shops at madeitmyself.com, artfire.com and etsy.com. You can find lovely crocheted jewelry there too. In addition she does fabulous (just look at mine) banners and avatars in her myhelpinghands shops.

Now that we've established how creative and skilled she is at scarves, jewelry, banners and avatars, you must know she is my cyber hero. I am new to using a computer and online shops, and she has helped me countless times. It is so appropriate to break in my blog and start the new year praising a talented artist, new friend and just plain awesome woman!

Can you hear me now?

Thanks to my friend, Gabrielle of Gabs Bags on Made It Myself, I am blogging for the first time! So now I will mention my online jewelry shops - madeitmyself.com/user/london.aspx , outtasight.artfire.com , outtasight.etsy.com - in hopes that all my readers out there will visit. The Made It Myself and Artfire shops have the most listings. Finally, for fear I will start talking about chapped lips or something, I'm signing out.
